The ocean is a constant feature of each day's activity, even if you are simply
gazing over the Caribbean Sea or dining on that morning's fresh catch. On the
reefs around Treasure Cove's 1.2 miles of coastline lie many shipwrecks creating
a fascinating underwater history of not only the island, but the world-class snorkeling
and scuba diving, as expected.
Treasure Cove's Rich History
The Spaniards and British lined up off St. George's Caye with the Spaniards
storming through the channel that is directly in front of the beaches at Treasure
Cove.
The Battle of St. George's Caye on September 3, 1798, fought off the coast of
what is now Belize, took place between an invading force from Mexico and a small
force of resident woodcutters called Baymen. After the final two-and-a-half hour
battle, ravaged by sickness, the Spaniards withdrew and the British declared themselves
winners on September 10, 1798.
Being a duty-free port, shopping is hard to resist. During the day, stroll through
the boutique at Treasure Cove and in the evening, enjoy a mini carnival with local
artists exhibiting their work.
There are art galleries, aquatic parks, cycling, boat trips and numerous other ways
of enjoying the beautiful sights of this island paradise. Please contact our concierge
